Seasons change the crossing more than the address
A gangway feels entirely different in July than it does in January. Summer evenings bring dry boards and a bit more daylight lingering into the hour, winter brings the opposite, a damp plank and a mooring that reads considerably darker by the time anyone actually arrives. None of this changes the booking itself, only how much a light left on at the gate genuinely helps.
What's usually on the other side of the door
Interiors vary enormously from one houseboat to the next, some are compact and cosily fitted out, others run surprisingly wide and modern behind a traditional-looking hull, entire kitchens and proper bedrooms rather than anything cramped. None of it changes the booking itself, but it explains why the format has stayed popular with residents rather than fading into a novelty, a genuinely comfortable home that just happens to float.
Storage space on the quay itself is usually limited, a bike rack, perhaps a small bench, rather than anything like a proper front garden. Anyone stepping off a taxi should expect to walk the last stretch along the quay on foot before reaching the gangway itself.
