The old city after dark
Amsterdam Centrum packs centuries into a small space. The Royal Palace and the Nieuwe Kerk look out over Dam Square, the Damrak runs up to the grand front of Centraal Station, and the three great canals, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht, curve around it all in the rings that carry UNESCO World Heritage status. At night the water holds the reflections of the bridge lights, and the side streets shrink into alleys laid out long before anyone imagined a car. Around Nieuwmarkt the medieval Waag stands in a ring of café terraces, while Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein keep their neon burning well past midnight.

Where visitors tend to stay
Hotels in the centre gather in a few pockets: around Dam and the Damrak, along the canal ring in converted merchant houses, near Rembrandtplein and the Amstel, and close to Centraal Station for guests arriving by train. Plenty of visitors rent a canal apartment instead, up steep stairs behind a narrow door. We come to every one of them. Send the address in your message and add anything useful for the last few metres, a side entrance, an unmarked buzzer, a lift that only runs with a key card.

Arrival times inside the canal ring
With companions already inside the ring, the centre is the quickest route we drive. Once you confirm, most arrivals land within the hour and often sooner. The exceptions are predictable: Friday and Saturday nights, when taxis queue along the Damrak and around Leidseplein, and King's Day or other big celebrations, when parts of the centre close to traffic. Many canal streets are one way or closed to cars, so her ride may stop a short walk from your building. None of that changes the plan; it simply means the time we give you in the chat is a real one, not a hopeful one.

Centrum suits guests who like the city right outside the window. Some bookings stay in the room from start to finish; others begin with a drink in a hotel bar or a slow walk along a lit canal before heading back.
