Oud-Zuid is the city at its most stately. The avenues are wider than in the canal belt, so a car can often pull up right outside, which keeps the arrival itself quick and discreet. The main exception is the half hour after a concert at the Concertgebouw or an event on Museumplein, when the surrounding streets fill with taxis. Oud-Zuid is one of the few parts of the city with a direct bus from the terminal: the airport express line stops by Museumplein roughly half an hour after leaving Schiphol, which suits guests with light luggage. Trams from Centraal reach the museums in about fifteen to twenty minutes along the Leidsestraat or the Vijzelstraat, and the Van Baerlestraat carries several lines past the Concertgebouw. Amsterdam Zuid station, a short ride south, links the neighbourhood to the metro and to fast trains towards the airport and Utrecht.

For our drivers the district is straightforward. The avenues are broad, the one way puzzles of the canal belt are behind them, and a car can nearly always stop within sight of your entrance. Coming from De Pijp or the Jordaan takes minutes; coming from further out, the A10 exits in the south drop almost straight into the Museumkwartier.
